THE NAVAL BATTLE DAMAGE TO BRITISH SHIPS
LION AND A DESTROYER TOWED HOME LONDON, 26th January. The Admiralty announces that all the British warships and destroyers concerned in Sunday's engagement have returned safely to port. The Indomitable towed home the Lion, which was flooded in the forward compartments as the result of a shell striking her below the waterline. The torpedo-boat destroyer Liberty also towed home the new destroyer Meteor, which wag disabled. Both thf crippled vessels were guarded by strong escorts of destroyers. The repairs will not take long. The total casualties on the British side were : — Lion, 17 wounded ; Tiger, 1 officer and 9 men killed and 3 officers and 8 men wounded ; Meteor, 4 killed and 1 wounded. [A similar message to the above has been received by the Prime Minister from the High Commissioner, and adding that it is not believed that there ' are any other casualties, but if there are any they will immediately be published. As soon as Admiral Sir David Beatty's report is received a fuller account will be given.]
