THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD
PLANT DISMANTLED. ' (BY TBLBGRAPH.—SPBCIAL TO TUB POST.'V AUCKLAND, This Day. The annual meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday The Chairman (Mr. C Hudson) stated that the board's plant had been dismantled and the machinery handed over to the Government. No December < assessment had been made. It would bring in £541, but the board would await the result of the collections tr. be made for 30th November Certain companies had paid, and they were beginning to .complain at being called on to pay while others were not doing so. It was decided that the comparrfee in arrears be notified that, failing necessary arrangements being made, legal steps v would bo taken to recover the amounts due. The Chairman said he had spoken to the chairman of the Thames Deep Level Board, and a levy had been made. The position had also been placed before the Government. A letter was received from the Minister for Mines, declining to grant assistance to enable the board to meet its . liabilities. The chairman regretted that such a reply had come, more particularly as they had been urged to appeal to the Government to keep tho big pump going ; bnt he, as chairman, would not appeal to the Government. To &ak for a little aid was quite a different matter. The present Minister for Mines did not possess a sympathetic ear. The payment o( all debts owing, with stores and cash in hand, were estimated to practically meet the board's liabilities.
