TROOPS IN TRAINING
THE MUSKETRY COURSE. The 3rd Reinforcements at Trentham are making good progress in their musketry course, being kept busily engaged upon the ranges fiom day to day. On their present showing they bid fair to attain the same standard of efiiciency established by the 2nd Reinforcements, if they do not exceed it. The 4th Reinforcements are also shaping well in their musketry work. In future all Reinforcements in their second period of training will fire the more advanced course laid down for the regular army at Home, viz., Musketry Regulations, Table B, Part 111. The qualification for marksmen is very high. Subject to attaining a certain standard in judging distance, Mounted Rifles and Infantry will be classified on their total scores as follows : Those who obtain 130 points and upwards, marksmen ; those who obtain 105 points and less than 130, first-class shots ; those who obtain less, second and third-class shots. The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Patriotic Society has promised to supply a concert party to provide an entertainment at the Trentham Camp once every month. Numerous offers from local artists, some of whom rank among the best talent in Wellington, have been received. To enable the committee to carry out this important work, it appeals with confidence to the public to provide a supply of motor-cars to convey the members of the concert party to Trentham and return to Wellington. This means that three cars will be required each month until the war is over. Those desiring to assist in providing amusement for the men at Trentham, and so assist in obviating the necessity for them to frequently journey to Wellington in search of diversion, are requested, should they be unable to provide cars, to kindly forward donations towards the cost of hiring same. The first concert will be held on Wednesday next.
Italian residents of Wellington are en deavouring to render some assistance to the bereft sufferers by the terrible earthquake at Avezzano. It is therefore intended to hold a benefit concert in Wellington for the Earthquake Fund, and an endeavour will be made to obtain the best talent available. So far as the public is concerned, it will have for any help it may r be instrumental in giving to the sufferers an enjoyable entertainment in retnrn. Mr. Geo.
