ALLEGED THEFT OF A MAIL BAG

Upon the arrival of the liner Corinthic at Wellington, on Tuesday night, it was discovered that the mailroom had been rifled and one of the bags stolen. The police were communicated with, and De-tective-Sergeant Rawle and Detectives Cameron and Mason went aboard. AfteT making investigations they found the missing mailbag still intact, and arrested two firemen named James Andrews and Frederick James Patching. At the Magistrate's Court tc-day, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., the two men were charged with having, between 10th December and 27th January, between London and Wellington, stolen a mailbag and contents, the property of the New Zealand Government. On the application of Chief-Detective Roddam, they were remanded until Wednesday.
