EVERY GERMAN BAYONETTED
RUSSIAN REPLY TO MASSED ATTACK. AN INCIDENT AT THE BZURA. PETROGRAD, 26th January. Prisoners state that the Germans unexpectedly attacked Guzow, in the Bzura region, during daylight, because of the mutinous spirit evinced when a night attack waff ordered. The Germans, four to eight deep, attacked a trench a mile long. The Russians retreated to the reserve trenches, which were shelled. They had to evacuate the trenches until dark, they then charged, bayonetting every German. The enemy lost four thousand, mostly killed ; the Russians eight hundred, killed and wounded.
