KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mi\ W. T Hildreth), and Councillors B G. H. Burn, W. G. Bradnock, A. Hamilton, L. P« Davies, P. C Jordan, J. W Henderson, and W. Skegg. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the officer commmanding the sth Regiment, stating that Karori Park would be available for a military camp, and giving a description of the accommodation at the park. It was resolved that the request by residents of Campbell-street, that a footpath be formed on the eastern side of that street, receive consideration when next year's estimates are being prepared. The Borough Engineer reported that 2295 trucks of metal had been crushed at the quarry up to 31st December lastThis produced 577 cubic yards of screenings and 2201 cubic yards of metal, making a total of 2778 cubic yards, at & cost of £360 19s 7d. The metal sold amounted to £259 Is 2d, while on tho streets £143 5s Id worth had been used ; this made a total of £402 6s 3d, leaving a profit of £41 6s Bd. The reservoir at the quarry had been enlarged by 10ft in length and 2ft in height. Its capacity was now 3000 gallons, and the engineer considered it Bhould suffice for some time to come. On the recommendation of the Public Works Committee^ it was decided that the Borough Engineer be instructed to repair the track along the extension and a part of the old track from Johnston* street round Mr. Dryden's corner at a probable cost of £120. The Tramways Committee recommended that the proposed time-table should be adopted with certain amendments, but it was decided to defer final action in the matter until the Mayor could arrive at a satisfactory understanding with the tramway authorities tn regard to stop-over time.
