Police cases were determined by Ml. W. G. Riddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. | Two girls, Ethel Susan Knapp and Alice Margaret Knapp, aged respectively 20 and 18 years, were charged with being idle and disorderly, in that they had insufficient lawful means of siipport. On the application of Inspector Hendrey, they were remanded to to-mortow in order that their parents might attend at Court. William Reid and Edward Mehan pleaded guilty to the theft of 35 sacks, valued at 15s, the property of Wm. John Gaudin. Each accused was fined 20s, "with the alternative of seven days in gaol. Charles Hector Dudley was charged that on 20th January he did forge the name of H. H. Beetham to a cheque for £10 13e 6d, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, and payable to Ernest George j Hood. He was remanded to appear on 3rd February. Sydney ISaunders, convicted of committing a grossly indecent act in Vivian, street, Was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, a prohibition order also to be issued against him. SITTING AT PETONE. The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's, Court was held this morning, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. " This is a very dangerous practice," said Sergeant Foster, in respect of a charge against Kenneth J. J. Geange of driving a vehicle over the crossing near the Grand National Hotel while a train was approaching within half a mile. Defendant was fined £1, with costs 7». The alternative was fixed at three days' imprisonment. Charges of failing to render personal service under the Defence Act were preferred against three youths, Harold Stewart, Lionel Hood, and Thomas Scollard. The two first-mentioned were each fined ss, with costs 7s, in default fortyeight hours' military detention. Scollard was ordered to pay 7s Court costs. " Guilty under extenuating circumstances " was the 2>lea put in by Charles Pidgeon, who appeared to answer a charge of refusing to quit licensed premises when requested to do so. Ac* cused was fined £1, witli 7s coats. Penalty for default was fixed at three days in gaol. CIVIL CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following civil cases :—: — Short and Fraser v. Valentine and Parker, £3 19s, costs 15s; Minine and Gardner v. J. F. M'Rae, £1 16s lOd, costs 6s ; Neil Doneghue v. Mere Isherwood, £9 2s 6d, costs 16s. H. C. Luff claimed the sum of £4 10s and possessioii of premises from G. Vugler. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, possession to be given within ten days. Costs were fixed at £1 12s.
