OFFERS OF AID
THE AUSTRALIAN FLEET. CANADA'S AND NEW ZEALAND'S PATRIOTISM. MELBOURNE, 'Jtd August. At the conclusion of the Cabinet meeting to-day, Mr. Cook, Prime Minister, stated that the Government had decided in the ovent of war to place the Australian vessels under the control of tho British Admiralty, and had also decided to offer to send "an expeditionary force of twenty thousand of any_ suggested composition, to any destination desired by the Home Government, the cost of despatch and maintenance to be borne by the Commonwealth. ■ A cable to this effect has been despatched to the Imperial Government. OTTAWA, 3rd August. The Government announces that the Home Government has accepted the oSev of Canada. The announcement does not express any opinion as to the nature and duration of the present crisis, except that a. very grave Canadian proclamation will be issued immediately calling out the naval reserves. ' l The Canadian Cabinet was in session throughout Sunday. - LONDOIv, 3rd August. The King, through Mr. Le^vis Harcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies) has expressed his high appreciation of New Zealand's and Canada's offers of help.
