PRINCE WAS TO ATTEND MANOEUVRES
THREE ATTEMPTS TO KILL HIM. TWENTY PERSONS INJURED. (Received June 29, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 28th June. As Inspector-General of the Dual Monarchy's Land and Sea Forces, Prince Francis Ferdinand voyaged aboard the Dreadnought Viribus Unitis from Trieste to Metcovic. Ho was welcomed at Mostar, where, in deference to local susceptibilities, in responding to the Mayor's address, he spoke partly in German, but chiefly in Serbo Crotian. He then profceeded to Ilidza, the headquarters near Serajevo, with a view to attending tha manoeuvres in the mountains south-west of Serajevo. Two attempts at assassination were made — firstly during the drive to the reception in the Serajevo Town Hall, when a compositor threw what is called a bottle bomb filled with nails and lead filings. However, it did not explode until the car had passed. The, explosion was very violent; i'ragmerits pierced the iron shutters of many shops in the vicinity, and twenty persons, including two members of the Royal suite and several women asd children, were slightly injured.
