TOURNAMENT AT WIMBLEDON
THE DOUBLES. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, 27th Juno. At the lawn tennis championship tournament, at Wimbledon, Brookes, remaining ; chiefly at the net, outplayed Clements, who is a hard-hitting base-liner. Doust, in the doubles, though troubled with neuritis in the shoulder, smashed and volleyed with great vigour. The third set was 9-9 when its was abandoned owing to bad light. « LONDON, 28th June. Dousfc and Mavrogordato defeated Parke and Beamish, 0-2, 3-6, 9-7, 1-6; Brookes beat Gore, 7-5, 6-L 6-2; Dunlop and Harding defeated Tingle Green and Thomas. 6-4, 6-0, 6-3 ; Brookes and Wilding defeated Bitchie and Prebble, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 ; Mavrogordato and Dousfc defeated Crawley and Dawson, 3-6. 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, 9-7. For the All England Plate, Ingram defeated E. Yencken, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1; A. Yencken defeated Hunter, 6-4, 6-2. There was a blazing sun and an enormous attendance. Doust's splendid cross shots and placing won the third set; Mavrogordato showed fine form in the fifth. Gore, playing _ splendid tennis, was leading 5-4, within a point of the first set. He lost some of his sparkle in the | second set. Brookes's wizard volleys not allowing him to use his forehand drives. Brookes reached the semi-final. - Ritchie and Prebble lost the first set badly. They adopted aggressive tactics in the second, and led 4-1. Prebble was particularly brilliant. Wilding and Brookes were 1-4 down in the fourth set, but Wilding's mid-court smashes enabled them to win. Doust and Mavrogordato manifestly tired against Cawley and Davson.
