V.M.C.A. SEAT SWIFTS. Swifts put up a much .better showing againet V.M.C.A. on No. 2 ground at Kilbirnie than against Thistle last Saturday, when they were beaten by seven goals to nil. Swifts, playing with the sun in their eyes, opened hostilities by setting up a determined onslaught on Y.M.C.A.'s goal, and looked like scoring on two 1 occasions, Mattingly sending in a couple of hot shots which Smith, the- V.M.C.A. goalkeeper, cleverly saved. V.M.C.A. ultimately drove back tlio invaders, and attempted to score, but without success. They were repelled in turn, but gradually asserted themselves and set up a prolonged series of attacks in Swifts's quarters. Penlington caved the ball from going through on several occasions ; he was, however, unable to stem the V.M.C.A. tide, and Roberts, who was playing up to his form, sent the leather through without giving tho Swifte's goalkeeper so much as a chance. V.M.C.A., 1 goal; Swift*, 0. The play for the remainder of the spell was fairly even, both sides attacking alternatively. During some exciting play in- front of the Swifts's goal Carrut'hers shot at goal, and Psnlington saved, the ball bouncing back.
