ST. ANNE'S CHURCH.

SOME STRONG CRITICISM. The annual meeting of St. Anne's (Newtown) branch of the Federation also discussed the proposals. The building' was crowded. Yen. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., presided. Ho strongly emphasised the need theie was for combating the Bible-in-Schools League's proposals, especially in view of the Referendum Bill. Rev. Father Hickson spoke in similar terms, and Mr. E. J. Fibzgibbon moved the following resolution, which was carried ;— "That this meeting of St. Anne's branch of the Catholic Federation, Wellington South, representing 2000 Catholics, wishes to place on record its most tfhphatic protest against the action of the Government in. introducing a Referendum Bill on the Bible-in-schools question. Further, it wishes to know by what right does the Government take upon itself to impose a measure which is a gross injustice on the liberties of a large section of the community who are all taxpayers, and who would be compelled as such to contribute to a system which is utterly obnoxious to them ; and further resolves that copies of this resolution be for- | warded to the. Right Hon. the Prime Minister and the members for the districts of Wellington East, Wellington South, and Wellington Suburbs." The following parish committee was rlecbcd : — Messrs. B. A. Guise, J. E. Gamble, W. T. M'Lauchahi, J. Flannghan, T. J. Powers, and J. Phelan.
