A NEW SOCIETY
The inaugural meeting of tho Wellington South Pleasant Sunday Afternoon Society was held in the Donald M 'Lean-street Methodist Church yesterday. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and heartily congratulated the leaders of the movement upon the success attending their initial effort to meet what many— particularly those with Old World experience— felt to be a need, both from a, Church and civic standpoint. Mr. Charles White-house, of Thames, gave the address, choosing for his subject- "The Influence of Companionship." He noted how man, by nature, was a social* being, his richest joys flowing through companionship, and his most severe punishment being lengthened isolation from all companionship. Tho fundamental object of companionship, the speaker declared, was to assist God in the development of harmony and goodwill in all human relationships. He enlarged on the need of wisdom in the selection of companions, and how in turn the influence of right companionship ministered unto wisdom. Mr. J. Lloyd Lunt sang the solo "My Task" and Miss B. dimming " Abido With Me," Miss Ward being accompanist. An orchestra, under the baton of Mr. Musker, rendered fine service in accompanying tho congregational singing.
