MAGISTRATE'S COURT

A large number of week-end inebriates came before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Henry Greenfield, with a number of previous convictions against him, was sent to gaol for one month, and a prohibition order was issued against him. Peter Mulcahy was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment. Michael John. Glavin was fined 10s, and Wm. Hedges received like treatment, default in each case being fixed at 48 hours in gaol. Five first offenders for drunkenness had their bail estreated, and seven others were convicted and discharged. Timothy Edward Hayes, charged with creating a breach of the peace, did not appear. He was fined £1. Frank M'Guire was charged with the breach of a prohibition order, in that he entered the Masonic Hotel during the currency of such order. He was fined £1 and Court costs amounting to 7s. Default was fixed at one month in gaol. Augustus Flux and Patrick Joseph M'Kay, who were both arrested ih the same house, pleaded not guilty to charges of being rogues and vagabonds, in that they habitually consorted with women of ill-repute. They were each convicted, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Judith Hunter was convicted of being idle and disorderly, because she habitually consorted with reputed prostitutes. She was fined £2, or else ordered to spend one month in gaol. John Samuel Fearn was charged with disobeying a maintenance order. He was sentenced to one month' 3 imprisonment ; warrant to be suspended if ho pays 2s 6d per week off arrears (£8), and continues tegular ' payments under the order. Sidney Alfred Smith, for a like offence, was treated similarly. The an ears in his case amounted to £4.
