THE TURF FIXTURES. fuly Z and 4— Gisborne B.C. Winter, luly 19 and 18— Wellington K.C. Winter. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By "Sir Lancelot.") WELLINGTON WEIGHTS , After the conclusion of the Napier Park meeting, Mr. H. Coyle lost no time in declaring the adjustments for the first day of the Wellington, meeting. Having witnessed the form at Wanganui, Auckland, Hawkes Bay, and Napier Park winter meetings, he was able to form an estimate of the competitors tha,t have been seen out this season, and appears to have made a good job of it. .The South Island-owned Margo heads the list in' the Vittorhi Hurdle Handicap, two miles. The grey mare is a il.ii' performer in the South, and ran fcwo seconds at South Canterbury in April, At Noiih Otago she scored With 10.5 over a mile ahd three-'quar* > ters, and also ran second with 11.6 over a mile and a -half. At Dunedin this month she won with 11,5, and ran third with 41.13 to Kurnalpi (10.8). She has never been two miles, and the class in tho South is not so good as she is likely to meet at Trentham. No liberties have been taken with Cheddar (10.12), One of the Merriwee tribe bought for hurdle-racing. Two other Sleiriwee's in Merry Vale (9.8) ' and Grandee (Efifcf are on the list.' 'The latter is a full-brother to Vi. Immensity (10.11) and Ruatangata (10.6) appear to the writer 'a likoly pair in the handicap, ' The consistent Bluestone (10.12) is at the head of the list in the Stewards' ■Handicap, seven furlongs. At Ellerslie he was third on the .opening day. run-ner-up to Haskayne on the second day, and won a double on the concluding clay. Crown Pearl, who acted as runner-up to Bluestone in the Farewell Handicap, five furlongs, now meets him on 71b Better terms. Bluestone appears a good solid sort, who is sure to have plenty o # f supporters if he comes down, MysteriStl'Ch (10-11) is hot badly treated. He beat a big field in the Heretaunga Handicap with 6lb less on his back. Mount .Victoria (10 4) raced consistently ihroughout the Hawkes Bay fortnight. :He now meets Mr. Hunter's gelding on 101b better terms. Mount Victoria generally runs well at Trentham, and is good in heavy going. Banian (10.5), won a double at Hastings. At the' Auckland Summer Meeting he ran a mile in lmiir 40sec. Ciynelish (9.10) is a ( smart sprinter in the South, with •wins at South Canterbury and Dunedin. So far he has not got. a longer journey than six furlongs. Kanaki (9.10) won the race last year. Black Lupin (9.10) ran a couple of good races at Otaki, but failed at Hastings, Mulga Bill (9.8) andAmpel 1 and Wlhite_J9.o) are other possibles. " The latCef' "rail second ' to Dayfly at Hastings, and 1 Mulga '"'Bill was ridden up to Passadena in the Huia •Handicap on the second day at Otaki. •Merrie Lad's recent performances entitle him to pride of place in the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, two miles and a-half. He has 12,0, which is 131b more than lie wqn with at the Pdrk, He is conceding lib to The Chief, winner of the Napier Steeplechase. Te Whetu (11,12). runner-up to Merrie Lad at Otaki, now meets him on 171b better terms. Fritz (10.10) fell on both days at Dunedin, and appear? rather high up. Ingenkender (10.10), on the same mark, reads better. He won a hurdle race on the first day at Ellerslie, and Jost his rider in tho Hunt Club Cup on the concluding day. ' He is a good sort, and is nicely in. Northern (10.0) is a Soathernei'. On both days at Dunedin he was coupled with his stable mates,, (Sportsman and Royal Medal), who scored, Northern is' a North IskndIjre'd gelding' by St. Cyi\ and won \hc InvercargiU Steeplechase in April, carrying 9.7. Trentham stables have a more than useful representative in Grit Lawless, who. has won at the local course. Bonny (9.11) won at Napier Park, beating Lady Bibbero. - In the -Wellington Steeplechase, three miles and a-quarter, Peary and the Spaniard are both on the same mark (i 1.13). It isj to be hoped the two performers named put in an . appearance, as there has been a lot of discussion as to which is the better of the pair. Bercola (11.10) missed vTrentham last season. After winning at Auckland he waited, for the Grand National. His best performance so fro- this season was at Wanganui. where- he ran second to Jackman on 201b better terms. Exotic {10.13), the Hawkes Bay double winner, is on the same mark as Jackman. With 3lb Jess than he carried on the concluding day at Hastings, Exotic is not badly treated. The Aucklander, Captain Jack (10.10). ran second tto Peary in the Great Northern when receiving 101b, Now he meets the Karamtt horse on 71b better terms. Captain Jack won the Winter Steeplechase on the last day at. Ellerslic) with 10.7. and is evidently a good ,60ft. Paritutu (10..9) me,ets Captain. Jack on a stone better terms than atjEllersiie. , Ruffy (10.7) meets Peary on 161b and Captain Jack on (3lb better iei'Mß than at' EJlerslie. Merry Lad and Te 1 , Whetu (10.2) are. both, in the. Hack' Steeple . ,bnt->if they take on the 'big' race might run Well. Sportsman (9.11) won the Otago Steeplechase, carrying 10.13. Rapid (9.9) won the Tamaki Steeplechase, two miles and a-half, at) EHerslie, carrying 9.11, He was in receipt of 161b from The Chief, who was oniy beaten, half 'a length. Mr. Cameron lias his three engager!. Kauroa (9,13) ran second to Exotic at Hastings. Waterworks is gaining" a bad record for falls. He failed to complete the course at Ellerslie, Hastings, and Napier Park. The writer has a weakness for Jackman and Captain Jack, The hurdlers Julian and Forest Prince, at present it> Australia, have been engaged at Trentham. The horses named 'both competed in the Australian Hurdles last season, but as their names do not appear in the list of this year's race probably it was an oversight. Forest Prince ran third and Julian was unplaced in the last V-R.C. Grand National Hurdles. B. Deeley lias won fifty-six race* this fteason. He has five wins to go to equal his last year's record. New Zealand hurdle and cross-country horsemen havo done well in Australia, and it is seldom an Australian rider comes to the Dominion. F. W. M'Cabe in an exception to the ruta Th§ horse-
