"HATAITAI" TUNNEL

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — A considerable amount of opposition to the traific tunnel through the hills to give better access from the city to the eastern suburbs arises from tho idea that it is for the benefit of the Hataitai people only. No doubt many people will be surprised to learn that the proposed "Hataitai" tunnel is quite half a mile from the boundary of Hataitai, and is intended to serve Upper Roseneath, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Maranui, and the Miramar Peninsula. Jso doubt the fact that the- Hataitai Ratepayers' Association has been so active in its endeavours to obtain better access to and from the city has led to the impression that the proposed tunnel is to open out in the middle of Hataitai. — I am, etc., WAITOA.
