Riddick, an old; Wellington boy, who has been living in, San Francisco for some years past, arrived by the Tahiti to-day on furlough. Mr. John Reardon, of Waikouaiti, Otago. "and father of Mr. M. J Reardon, secretary of the Wellington General Labourers' Union, died yesterday afternoon. The deceased, who was about 85 years of age, had been a resident of Otago since 1861. Mr. Arthur Hall, of Thovndon-quay, whose death occurred last week, was an. old resident of Wellington. He was boi nat Berwick, Shetland Isles. 70 years ago, and went out to Australia at the age of 18. He tried his luck at Lammon Flat gold diggings and then removed to New , Zealand. •< After being in business as a x baker at Hokitika for some time he came to Wellington and worked on the railway line at Cross Creek. Subsequently he settled in Wellington City, building on a section on Thorndon-quay. The deceased, who never married, was much respected. He was A member of the Featherston Masonic Lodge. The interment was made tit Karori. Mr. Robert Lee, who is shortly leaving bn a trip to t^e Old Country, has resigned his position as a member and chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Wellington Training College. At a meeting of the committee yesterday, Professor Rankine Brown moved : "That the chairman's resignation be accepted Avith regret, and that the committee place on the minutes 'its recognition of his valuable services in the cause of education.". Tn supporting the motion, Mr. William Lock (Mayor of Nelson) alluded to his long acquaintance with Mr. Lee, and testified to the great aid he had been to educational progress. f The resolution was agreed to, and Mr. Lee brigfly, but feelingly, replied. ■'i ' ' '
