FEAR OF THE BEEF TRUST

GOVERNMENT URGED TO WATCH IT. AUCKLAND, 20lh May. At the conference of the Provincial Farmers' Union to-night it was resolved that the Government should be urged to watch carefully the operations of meat and other trusts in New Zealand. One member stated that the Meat Trust was at present established in Australia, and there was good reason to believe that it has come to New Zealand, " but thero is no reason to fear trust operating meiely in trade," he added. "In fact, we want them. So long as tlrey do not take over the control of our freez ing works no harm will be done. Once they do that tho country will be in deadly danger. No legislation would remedy this- state of affairs, but the difficulty could be overcome only by the farmers themselves. Let them be loyal to their own companies at any cost, and all would be well."
