FRUIT INDUSTRY TASMANIA'S RECORD SEASON

NEW ZEALAND'S GROWING ' TRADE. The departure of the P. and 0. branch j liner Palma from Hobart on the 6th inst. brought to a close the season's export of apples and pears to overseas' markets, save from some x half-dozen shipments still to be made to South America. Tho applications for space necessitated the bringing to Hobart of a great fleet of no less than thirty-three steamships to load for the United Kingdom and Germany, while space had also to be booked in ten of the regular traders for South America. This is the biggest fleet that has ever been engaged in the Tasmanian fruit export trade, and the shipments were by far the heaviest on record. A feature of the trade this season has been the loading of fivo steamers for Germany. Tho shipments from Tasmania to overseas and inter-State markets this season have been as follow -.—For tho United Kingdom. 766,703 cases; for Germany, etc.. 72,175 cases; for South America, 37,308 cases. There are six more vessels to load. The sliipments of fruit to interState ports have also been exceedingly heavy—to date, 268,453 cases, making the grand total to all ports, 1,144,639 i cases.
