DEFENCE RIFLE CLUBS

Some interesting remarks relative to the usefulness of Defence Rifle Clubs were made by Colonel Wolfe, Inspector of Rifle Clubs, at the rifle clubs' parade at tho Drill Hall last evening. He said he thought that the public hardly realised what a valuable asset they possessed for defence in the Defence Rifle Clubs. Accurate shooting was tl^ main factor in modern warfare, and it did not matter how well troops were placed in tho field if they could not shoot, as then they would be useless. _ The advantage gained by the officers in taking up a -strong military position would be counteracted if the men, by being unable to shoot well, could not make the most of it. There could be Ho question that the rifle club men were first-class shots. Colonel Wolfe concluded by congratulating the men on the excellent manner in which they had gone through their drill that night.
