MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS AT NELSON

NELSON, 19th May. The Hon. W. H. Hernes, Minister of Railways, addressed a public meeting here to-night, the Provincial Hall being well filled. The Minister ,had a good hearing throughout, and ' his speech was a. general defence of the Government's administration. Replying to the criticism of the Liberal "flying squadron," Mr. Herries declared that during the coming session the Government would complete the redemption of its pledges, with the exception of cumpulsory insurance against unemployment, in connection with which they were watching the working of Mr. Lloyd George's scheme at Home. A motion of thanks and confidence in the Government was declared carried on the voices, .amidst some uproar.
