FIRE ESCAPES
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I would point out to the authorities and those whose duty it is to grant building permits to boardinghouses, hotels, ahd places where the public require board and lodging to see the public are protected, and can get ready exit in case of fire. Passages in many of these buildings are far too small and the fire escapes not sufficient. I would suggest a life-line in every bedroom above the ground floor, and that an officer be appointed to inspect these buildings once every month. In my business capacity going over many of these ■buildings I have been surprised at the bad planning of these buildings used by the travelling public. There is not sufficient care taken for the safety of our travelling public in our city. Trusting our City Fathers will look into this matter in the future. — I am, etc., ONE WHO REGRETS SO MUCH LOSS OF LIFE. 18th May, 1914.
