GENEROUS BEQUESTS
ESTATE OF MRS. TOWNEND. (BY TELHQIUPH.— PKESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCII, This Day. After providing for a number of private legacies, the late Annie Townend, relict of Dr. Townend, left the following amounts to public institutions : Ten thousand pounds for the relief of distressed gentlewomen ; £5000 to the church property trustees for clergymen with stipends of under £300 a, year; £5000 for the Cruelty Prevention Society in the Isle of Man; £5000 for the chief charitable institution in the Isle of Man; £5000 for the Christchurch Society for the ' Prevention of Cruelty ; £4000 for the Hospital Visitors 1 Association ; £4000 for the Citizens' Benevolent Association; £4000 for the Child'ren's Convalescent Cottage at New Brighton ; £1000 for the Barnardo Homes; £1000 for the Cashmere Hills Sanatorium, and lesser amounts for the Salvation Army, Horticultural Society, District Nursing Fund, and Prison Gate Mission.
