ARRIVES HERE TO-MORROW LIST OF ARRANGEMENTS. CIVIC RECEPTION ON FRIDAY. General Sir lan Hamilton, InspectorGeneral of the Overseas Fences, will arrive in Wellington by the ex pi ess fiom New Plymouth at 7.23 to-morrow evening. He will be accompanied by Major Ashtnoie, of his own si all, and General Godley, Ollicer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, and Sta.il'. BrigadierGeneral Ellison, the Inspector-General's Chief Staff Officer, U at picsent in Wellington, staying at the- Wellington Club. General Hamilton, during his stay in Wellington, will be the guest of General Godley. BATTLE rr.AC'L'ICE OX FRIDAY. On Friday Sir lan will spend an exceptionally busy day. lie will leave town at 9 a.m. by motor-car for Fort Dorset, where he will watch the Royal New Zealand and Garii&on Artillery shooting at the wrecked steamer Devon with the 6in Mark VII. guns, using both lyddite and common armour-piercing shell. When the bombardment of the wrecked liner had been completed the whole of the Wellingto> forts— Dorset, ISalla-nce, and Kelburne — will engage in battle practice firing' at two Hongkong targets, which will be towed by the steamer Janie Seddon. The targets, which will represent a hostile cruiser, will be towed well outside the heads and pass within range of the fortresses' guns. Dorset will open the cannonade at a range of three miles, with twenty rounds of practice shot from the 6in Mark Vll.'s, and as the cruiser moves in the 12 pounders and 6in E.O.C. guns of Ballance and Kelburne will be brought to bear. The bombardment of the Devon, followed by the realistic battle practice, should make an impressive spectacle, and the Wellington public should obtain an excellent view of the proceedings from the hills overlooking Fort Dorset, near Seatoun. After his inspection of the- troops at Fort Dorset General Hamilton will proceed to Forts Kelburneand Ballance, where* ho will also mako inspections. At 4 p.m. the- distinguished visitor will bo tendered a civic reception by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) at the Town, Hall. The ceremony will bo held in tho big auditorium, and it is hoped that as many citizens as possible — an open invitation has been extended — will be present in order that General Hamilton may bo accorded a _ fitting welcome worthy of the capital city of Now Zealand. Mr. Bernard Page, tho city organist, will play a number of selections on the city organ. At 8 p.m. General Hamilton will be the guest of Ministers of the Crown at dinner. SATURDAY'S CADET REVIEW. On Saturday afternoon General Hamilton will inspect the Defence Rifle Clubs and the Senior Cadets of the Wellington city and suburban districts at Newtown Park. The Cadets, numbering some 1200 youths, divided into four battalions, will parade in tho following organisation :—: — Brigadier, Captain C. G. Powles, N.Z.S.C. ; Brigade Major, Captain W. C. Morrison ; Brigade Sergeant-Major, S.S.M. -Parke6._ First Battalion — Wellington College. Cadets (four companies), under Captain Williams and S.M.s Woodward and Wray. Second Battalion— Four companies, made up of St. Patrick's College, St. James'e, St. Anne's (Brooklyn), St. Thomas's (Newtown), and Post and Telegraph Cadets, under Captain Simeon, and S.M.s Brown and Brighting.' Third Battalion — Four companies, comprising the Potone Technical, Thorndon, Kai'ori, Johnsonville, Petone, and Lower Hutt Cadets, under Major Bethune and S.M.s Ryan and Morrison. Fourth Battalion — Four companies, consisting of V.M.C.A., Scouts, Boya' Institute, and Technical School Cadets, under Captain Frandi and S.M.s Smith and Bell. The brigade will be formed up on Newtown Park grounds in line of quar-ter-columns for inspection by General Hamilton. After >. the inspection and march past the brigade will give a massed display of physical drill, followed by an advance in | review order. General Sir lan Hamilton will then present the Ladies'" Challenge Cups to the winners j but if the musketry course has not been finished in any company by that date the officer commanding will receive the cup on behalf of his company. The Inspector-General will also present the cups won at the recent Citizens' Carnival and Group Rille Meeting. The whole ceremony, given fine weather, should prove an exceptionally interesting one, and a big attendance of the general public is expected. A special practice of the physical drill exercises will be held at the Drill Hall on Friday night, when it is urged that as many cadets as possible should be present. On Saturday evening General Hamilton will dine with the members of the Wellington Club. On Monday he will inspect the Wairarapa Cadets at Masterton, on Tuesday evening he will attend the meeting of the Victoria League in Wellington, and on Wednesday the General and his staff will proceed by the warships Psyche and Pyi'amus to inspect the Marlborough Cadets at Blenheim. The latter will- be the last inspection which will be made by General Hamilton in New Zealand, and he will conclude his visit shortly afterwards. TARANAKI CADETS (BY TEtBGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
