NEW ZEALAND. SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. Heavy rnin has continued in the east coast districts of the North Island, causing • heavy floods in the rivers. Cold and showery conditions have prevailed elsewhere in the North Island and also in the north-eastern districts of the South. On the West Coast and in the southern half of the South Island more favourable weather has been' experienced' with hard frosts in parts. South-easterly winds, strong to gale, have prevailed northwards of Westport and Kaikoura, while the winds have been moderate and variable southwards. The barometer is still low in the North, and has fallen elsewhere since yesterday. TO-DAY'S WEATHER. From observations taken at 9 a.m.
