HOTEL WORKERS' UNION ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Wellington District Hotel, Club, and Restaurant Workers' Union was held in the Trades Hall last night, there being a good attendance. Mr, M. Craig presided. The report and balance-sheet, which were adopted, showed that during tho half-year 533 new members had been admitted, tho total being made up as follows:— Wellington, 146 males, 64 females, and 58 on clearances ; Hastings ,' 23 males, 42 females, and 22 on clearances ; Palmerston, 34 males, 29 females, and 27 on clearances; Wanganui, 29 males, 29 femalea ; and 30 on clearances. The. receipts during the six months in weekly subscriptions from the branches of the Wellington union totalled £381. The expenses were exceptionally heavy, mainly on account of the cases for awards that had been commenced and were in progress, and, roifthly, £100 had been expended ih that direction. The period, however, finished with about £95 cash in hand. The election of officers resulted in the unopposed return of all the retiring officers with_ the exception of three who aro leaving the distinct. The vacancies were filled by the unopposed return of three local members. It was stated thafy the labour conditions in tho trade were at their worst, ■ because there had not been ihany changes, nor had there been many extra workers engaged, on account of the sixday week being granted. Country hands had also commenced to come into the city, as was the case every winter. The secretary reported that there were many men out of work. The secretary further reported that the impression, which ono or two hotelkeepers had, that they were entitled to deny the workers their meals on the holiday, had been removed. The assessors for the union _ reported that they had submitted modified proposals, without prejudice, to the employers in private hotels and restaurants, with a view to the settlement of the dispute outside the Court. The assessors, Messrs. O'Malley, Thornton, and Carey, were given full power to act in the interests of the union.
