m PROVISIONAL CLASSIFICATION COMPREHENSIVE LIST PUBLISHED. In the shape of a bulky Supplementary Gazette, the provisional \classifioation list of the officers of the Public Service (excepting the Post and Telegraph Department) was published last night, and is creaiing general interest in the service. The list is prefaced by the following short memorandum of the Public Service Commissioner (Mr. D. Robertson): — The classification is effective as from Ist April, 1913, with the exception that cadets and a small number of junior rlerks, whose salaries have been adjusted to enable them to fall in with the regular step on Ist April, 1914, will not be regarded as finally classified until that date. The list is not a seniority list ; the numbers shown on each page are for facility of reference only. A seniority list ■ will be issued later . ( The column " maximum for position " is intended to show the max* mum value the position will attain before- any future of the service. In cases where the maximum for the position is in a higher class than the salary allotted for the current year it is to be understood that tho position is classified in two classes. The salaries of officers in the Administrative Division are not snown, as under section 19 of the Act they are subject to Parliamentary authority only. Where any salary higher than ±5700 is shown in the Professional Division, this is to be Tegarded as subject to the provisions of section 20, subeecttou 3 of the ActAny officer dissatisfied with his classification as shown in the list may forward to the Commissioner, within thirty days of 20th August, a notice at appeal setting forth the grounds of his dissatisfaction, for consideration by the Board of Appeal. The attention of officers is directed to section 31 of the Act. As it is desired that there may be as little delay as possible in the publication of the final classification, it is requested that officers desiring to appeal shall forward the appeals as early as possible. The Board of Appeal will commence its sittings about the 29th iiist. Officers are desired to call immediate attention to any error, however slight, in name, length of service, or other particulars in the list.
