HORSE-MAIMING
RENEWAL IN STAFFORDSHIRE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received August 20, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 19th August. Agriculturists and horseowtiers in th« Black Country are alarmed at the renewal of horse-maiming at Wednesbury and Darlaston. A postcard has been received at Wolverhampton, signed, "Darby, captain of til* Wyrlej Gang)" which declares that the next outrage will be at Wolverhampton. [On the 4th instant, a cable message Btated that the Grea^ Wyrley gang had recommenced operations. A pony was maimed in the Wednesbury district. A postcard, with a threat, was received at Wolverhampton prior to the outrage. In October, 1903, a man named Edalji was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for maiming cattle at Great Wyrley. There had been many enses, and for some time the police were" at sea. After Edalji's sentence there were one or two more maiming cases. In 1909, as the result of the report of a Commission held to enquire into the case, the Home Seoretary advised the King to grant Edalji a free pardon without compensation.]
