DOG SHOW
WELLINGTON KENNEL CLUB'S FIXTURE. The Wellington Kennel Club* twentyseventh annual dog show was opened in the Harbour Board's X Shed, on Waterloo-quay, thw afternoon. The number of exhibits constitutes a record for New Zealand, being 380 (in all classes), as against 340 last year. Competition in fox terrier* is very keen, no less than eighty being on view. Another well contested class is that of the Irish setters, which number fifty, and pointers are also well represented, being thirty in number. Taken all round, the quality is very good, while the variety is excellent.
At about a quarter past 5 last ©vetoing, just before the time fixed forth© MaiteP* departure for Lyttelton, an explosion occurred on the vesaei— an ouxiHary pteatnpipe leading from one of the main boilers having bnrst. Although the affected noiler w«w immediately "iaolated," fully half an hour elapsed before the engineers were able to turn off thA eteam, which during that time bellowed through the rents in the broken pipe. The fracture occurred quite done to the boiler, and as the pipe leads up to the whole of the deck machinery, it was decided to have the neceeeaiy repair* effected before the Martai sailad.
