LEAGUE TOUR
NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM ARRIVES PROSPECTS 01? THE GAME. Looking fit and ve&dy for the game, members of the New South Wales League touring team leaned over the rail of the Ulimaroa to-day, and while walt« ing for permission to go ashore, discussed the team, the game, and proe« pects with friends and pressmen. The members of the team are : A. Curran, R. R. Craig, W. 0. Foord, J. Murray, ,W. Haddock, W. A. Cann, C. Sullivan, P. M'Cne, E. v Conttrnqr, Sv T. Btttn'ett, L. O'Malley, L. Cubitt, B. Coyne, H. G. Naylor, L. R. Aligie, H. Tliompßon, S. Deane, 0. Deane, D. Frawley, H. Horder. W. N. CoUine. H. Hallett, and G. Chains. Messrs. Si Geo. Ball' and B. J. Hooper are managers and Mr. A. S. Hennessy is trainer. A. Johnson is not with the team at present, but leaves Australia to-day and will join his confreres at Auckland. Of the original selection Fraser, Broomhatn, Messenger, Pearce, Norman, and Holloway dropped out. M'Kivatt and Botler were selected afterwards, but were unable to make the trip. i In conversation with the pressmen the manager expressed the opinion that > the team was well-balanced. Included are a number of younger players, among them H. Horder. This man was, last season, playing what in New Zealand would be fourth-grade junior, but while the New Zealand team was in New South Wales he made a great name for himself in the city cup competition. Sydney papers were unanimous in praising his play, and one paper predicted that the mantle of Dally Messenger would fall on his shoulders. He ib quite a boy and in football rig weighs about 9st 71b. He 1s expected to do great things while on tour. Other players who are gaining their first representative ca^s are Foord, Cubitt, Coyne, Naylor, Algie, 0. Deane, Chain's, and Collins. What sort of tour do you expect? "We expect stiff matches, but believe our team to be faster than the team that visited New Zealand in 1912." What is your opinion of the New Zealand team that visited Australia? That it was about the best that the League has sent over from the Dominion, and included some very worthy representatives— such shining stars as Kelly, Ifwerson, Manning, King, and Shadbolt. King was one of the best forwards seen across the water. The members of the team will train tins afternoon at Kelburne Park, and leave to-morrow night for Christchurch, where they play Canterbury on Saturday. They play Wellington on 13th September, and New Zealand, at .Wellington, on 20th September.
