MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Kate Brady was brought before Dr. M' Arthur, S.M., this morning, charged with drunkenness, and was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. A similar penalty was inflicted on John Harris for drunkenness. James Cass was charged with drunkenness and the theft of a singlet and pyjamas, value 8s 6d, from the shop of Izrael Solomons, in Manners-street. He had three previous convictions for drunkenness recorded against him, but this was his first offence for theft. The Bench inflicted a fine of 40s, or a term of fourteen days' imprisonment for the drunkenness, and entered a conviction for theft, prisoner to come up for sentence when called upon. Several cases of drunkenness were dealt with at a sitting of the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, Mr. T. Bland, J.P., presiding. B. Mahoneywas fined 40s, in default seven days' imprisonment, John Chambers was convicted and discharged, and Peter Robertson was mulcted in the sum of 10s, the alternative being forty-eight hours' detention. /
