PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE. liv ; reply, .to a representative of The Post to-day, the Hon. A. L. Herdman said he was unable at present to state when the Public Service Commissioners will be appointed. - The Minister stated that the only provisions of the Act which would come into operation at once were those which enabled the Government to make the appointments of Commissioners, and the clause enabling them to make preliminary investigations into the working of the different departments. The rest ■of the Act would come into operation on the Ist of; April next. In reference to the complaints recently, made about the working of the Public Trust Office, the Hon. Mr. Herdman said'it was intended to appoint two commissioners, under the Commissioner's Powers Act to make an investigation into the operations of * the office. The enquiry would not be ah ordinary departmental one.
