INTEGRITY OF TURKEY
SPEECH BY AUSTRIAN FOREIGN MINISTER. BUDAPEST, 6th November. Count Berchtold, Foreign Minister, addressing the Foreign Affairs Committee, said the present aspiration of the Balkan Allies was incompatible with the principle of the integrity of Turkey; but Austria had no tendency towards territorial expansion. She was prepared to make large allowances for the new situation created by the Allies' victories, and to lay the foundation of a lasting friendly understanding. On the other hand, she also would have a i ight to demand that the legitimate interests of Austria should not suffer in the settlement. He hopped Roumatiia's interests would meet with corresponding consideration.
