WESLEY CHURCH, ISLAND BAY
In continuation . of Sunday School anniversary services, held last Sunday, the annual tea and public meeting was held last evening. The special hymns sung by the children on the Sunday were repeated, assisted by the choir and outside friends and orchestra. The leader was Mr. R. E. Herron, jun., and the pianist Mi*s C. Herron. Mr. W. . G. Slomah acted as, organist. Recitations and vocal items were given by the scholars. The annual report, presented by Mr. W. Rose, showed a very satisfactory state of affairs in connection with the work of the school, there being a credit balance of over £16 with which to commence the new year, after several sums had been voted to other funds! The officers for the ensuing year are as follow :— 'Superintendent, Mr. S. P. Rilstone; secretary and treasui er, Mr. T. M. Abernethy; librarian, Mr. P. Shorland, organists, Miss J. Shorland and Mr. E. Rose. The prizes were presented tothe scholars by Mrs. E. H. Todd. During the evening a presentation of an oak tea'tray was made by Miss J. Shorland, one- of the senior scholars, to Mr. Clarke, who is retiring from the position of superintendent, after live yeats' service. Votes of thanks, moved by Mr. W. i Rose, . \rere passed to all thoFe who had assisted in making the anniversary such a success.
