(IT TELEGBAPH— SMCIAt TO TUB POBT.) MASTERTON, This Day. Heavy but warm rains fell here all yesterday. The evening was dear, and the rain ceased during the night. Many of the rivers are in flood. Shearing operations have been suspended. The death is reported from Gladstone of .Mrs. Robert Grant at the age of 78. The deceased lady, who wae one of the beet-known settlers in the district, arrived in New Zealand in 1863. For many years she and her husband resided at Gladstone, where they were widely respected. Mrs. Grant wae predeceased by her husband about thirty years. The deceased lady leaves a large grown-up family. The death occurred at Upper Plain, Masterton, last evening of Mrs. Joseph lome, the wife of Mr. J. lorne, manager of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. The deceased lady wae ill only two days, and death was unexpected. She was 50 years of age.

Messrs. E. Johnston and Co. will sell to-morrow, at 2 o'clock, a seven-roomed residence, situated No. 56, Todman-etreet, Brooklyn; also household furniture and effects, to be sold by order of the public trustee in the estate of E. G. Chatwin (deceased). Mr. H. E. Holland, Socialist speaker and editor, of Australia, will arrive ih Wellington on Friday, and on Sunday next will lecture under the auspices of the Socialist Party. " Mr. Holland has been on tour throughout New Zealand, and is on his way back to Sydney.
