THE LATEST STRIKE
AT LAKE COLERIDGE TUNNEL. MATTERS IN DISPUTE. [8* T*t»CIBAPH— PfiESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, 23rd Sept. Disputes between the men employed on the tunnel at Lake Coleridge' and the contractor, Mr, M'Williams, have culminated in a strike. Mr. H. A. Campbell, organiser of the Canterbury General Labourers' Union, visited the works in the latter part of last week, and to-day sent the following, telegram to Mr. A. Paterson, secretary of the union in Christchurch ; — " Tunnel men and en-gine-drivers employed by M'Williams at Lake Coleridge are on strike. Warn men against coming here." The men want a dismissed enginedriver reinstated,' ladders in the shafts from top to bottom, extra pay for overtime work, and double pay on Sundays. [Mr. M'Williams is a resident of Wellington, and has carried out numerous contracts in the Wellington district, including the constrnction of the Karon tunnel.]
