POUNDAGE ALLOWANCE CANNOT BE REINSTATED. [BI TELBGBAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NAPIER, This Day. Recently the Postal Department notified tho abolition of the 1£ per cent, poundage allowed merchants on automatic franking machines. Mr. Brown, M.P., at the request of a deputation, made representations to the PostmasterGeneral on the subject, but Mr. Ell has replied regretting that he cannot see his way to reinstate the poundage, cs the expense of making the collection aud allowing credit to holders is so heavy, materiaDy reducing the amount collected for postages.
