PRICES ADVANCE.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable advice from its London office, dated 4th May :—: — "The market has closed with good demand for fine and coarse crossbreds. Total quantity held ovei is 21,000 bales, of which 9COO are New Zealand. Compared with the average of last sales, coarse crossbred wool has been in better demand at an advance of 5 per cent. Prospects are favourable." Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Wellington, have received a cable from their London office dated 4th inst., as follows :—"The wool sales have closed with a very firm market. As compared with closing rates of last series, fine-haired, super, fair to good, inferior and scoured merinos are all 5 per cent higher. Crossbreds—Fine and medium qualities are unchanged. Coarse qualities aiid scoured crossbreds are 5 per cent, higher. Shabby and dingy, par to 5 per cent, lower. The total quantity of wool disposed of is as follows :—Sold to America, 10,000 bales; sold for Home consumption, 145,000 bales; sold for Continent, 100,000 bales. Ten thousand bales were not offered and 20,000 have been carried forward to next seriea. The Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists has received th« following cablegram from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, 4th May, 1912, regarding the olosing of the second series of the colonial wool sales :—"The wool sales have closed. The market is strong, with a very large demand, especially for superior merino and strong croeebreds. Prospects aro favourable. Seven thousand seven hundred bales of Ne"w Zealand wools are held over. Estimated values—Superior merino, Is to Is lid per lb; medium, 9Jd to ll^d; inferior, 7^d to 9d; fine crossbreds, all grades, lid to Is l^d; medium crossbreds, B^d to lid; coarse crossbreds, 7£d to 10id." Tlie New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date 4th met.: —" Sales closed with good competition; 253,000 bales were sold, of which 100,000 were taken for the Continent, and 10,000. for America, 20,1100 bales of wool being held over. There was a decreased American demand for crossbred wool. As compared with last sales' closing rates prices aro lower by 'about par to 5 per cent, for medium and fine greasy crossbred ; higher by about 5 per cent, for merino scoured, greasy crossbred lambs, greasy merino, and scoured crossbred; higher by about par to 5 per cent, for lambs, coarse greasy crossbred, and crossbred slipe." Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable message from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray and Co., with reference to the elope of the sales :—"The sales have closed, 20,000 bales being held over. Compared with the closing rates of last London sales, the market shows an advance of 5 per cent, iot best descriptions of greasy merino, and par to 5 per cent, advance for coarse greasy crossbred. Fine greaey crossbred, best descriptions, show no change, while wasty and inferior have declined 5 per cent. Medium crossbreds, greasy, have declined 5 per cent., and the market is firm, and shows no material change in all other descriptions of wool."
