LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL
AUCKLAND, 2<Hh April. Referring to the Local Government Bill to a reporter 10-day, the Hon. G. W. Ruseell said : "Some amendments may be made in the Bill, but it is the intention' of the Government to push it through if possible, as they recognise that the overloading of local bodies which now 1 exists is a matter that should be remedied at as early a date as possible. Wo have been approached with a view to having every local body in the Dominion represented at tho conference in- Wellington at the end of May, but that would, of course, be impossible. Anything embracing more than sixty or seventy delegates would be unworkable. It is the intention first to hold district conferences to select delegates to represent them at tho Wellington conference. Tho number of delegates had been fixed on a population basis, aud if my memory serves me right, Auckland city and district would have seven delegates at the- Wellington conference."
