TRIP TO PAHIATUA AND WOODYILLE. , Tbirty-five fitrong, the Central Mission Band^epent the Easter holidays in a visit to Pahiatua and Wooclville, where opportunity yiae afforded to give concerts mainly in aid of local churches and charities. On Good Friday, at a luncheon provided by a Pahiatua resident, Bey. W. H. Speer and Mr. M'Ai-dle, Mayor of the town, voiced the welcome of the citizens, the Missioner, Rev. E. O. Blamires responding. The Drill Hall was packed in the evening, when a sacred concert, comprising band items, gleee, solos, and recitals, was given by the members, whp received numerous encores. The hospital was visited on Sunday afternoon when a programme of anthems and hymn-tunes with variations attracted a large gathering of residents, and in the evening a band service was held in the Foresters* Hall, which was well filled. On Monday evening the final concert was given at Pahiatua. Woodville was visited on Saturday evening, and the band met with a good reception, Rev. W. Beckett occupying the chair. On Saturday a cricket match was play* ed against representatives of Pahiatua and Mangatainoka. The local men made 80'on-an' -indifferent- wtdketi^Kb'^hA first' attempt, but succumbed for 34 in the second, and the_band mad 6" 54 in the first innings, .and 'improved to 62 four wicket» in the Second, ihus winning by cix wickets. Wiri Baker, Wm. Baker, Blamires, and Longhuret were most successful for the winners. Easter Monday was spent at a picnic at Konini, where various sports were indulged in, the band again proving victorious at Rugby football, scoring four tries to nil against their opponents. : Good form was shown by Spearman, F. Baker, and Cook. Most of the arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. J. Worden and Boagey, of Pahiatua, to whom an expression of thanks was tendered at the final concert.
