HOUSING BILL.
NEW SOUTH WALES MEASURE COUNCIL'S AMENDMENTS. SPEAKER'S RULING. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received March 22, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Legislative Assembly received the Housing Bill from -the Legislative Council, with amendments, which the Government was prepared to accept. The Speaker (Mr. Willis) ruled, however, that the Council had no power to amend a Money Bill. It is probable the Government will 1 drop tho Bill, and introduce a new one, embodying tho Council's views. [In moving the second reading of the Housing Bill in the Legislative Assembly last month, Mr. Dacey, Colonial Treasurer, declared that the scheme would cause no great drain on th© labour market. For.fevery tradesman required 'one would be brought from England to replace him. It .was proposed to erect a, garden city and offer the people a healthy life. No hotels would be allowed within the area. He considered it equally necessary for the Government to construct, houses as railway*. They would cost half a million. Between 80P and 900 houses are to be erected.]
