George Silva was found guilty of the murder of Maud Ching at Alligator Creek on 17th November, and sentenced to death. tin November last there occurred a fearful tragedy at Alligator Creek between Mackay and Blano Creek, a woman named Ching and her five children being murdered. Mr. Ching was from home at the time. Suspicion fell on Silva, a Cingalese, who had been working on Ching's farm, and he was arrested at Mackay. Silva tried to implicate two other men, a. white and an Afghan, but without success.]
