FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
(BY TELEGRAPH — PEESS ASSOCIATION.] HOKITIKA, 27th February. Great and increasing interest is being shown in the forthcoming fire brigades' demonstration at Hokitika, commencing j on Friday. Between sixty ant! seventy I brigades are competing. Representatives of a dozen briga-des have already arrived, and large contingents of South • Island men are coming by tho overland > express to-morrow night. Abort two i hundred men from the North Island will arrive on Thursday, when the remainder of the South Island firemen will also reach the coast by overland train. The ■ conference, competitions, picnics, onter- * tainments and other events will occupy ) a week, and a record influx of visitors > from all parts is anticipated. Beautiful } weather prevails, and there is every proL mise of a most successful demonstration. I Very extensive arrangements fqr the accommodation of visitors have been made 1 by all the hotels, and though there will ' bo an extra-ordinary demand for accom- > modation the faoilitiefi will bo fully equal > to the occasion.
