MISHAP TO THE ROSAMOND.
For the fourth time this month thej
Union Company's cargo steamer Rosamond, which arrived at Wellington yesterday afternoon, had a rough trip down. .the coast. Her latest experience, however, might well have ended disastrously, as a. mishap in her engine room left the vessel at the mercy of the sea in Cook Strait on Sunday morning. A terrific eeaT was running at the time, and. the continuous pounding of the huge wavee had burst the after water ballast tank, the bilges being flooded. Sail was immediately set, and the vessel was able to proceed slowly, but after several j houre of buffeting it was decided to- 1 make for Stephen's Island, where, in the \ comparatively smooth water, repairs -were effected. The Rosamond re&umed her voyage at 7 a.m. yesterday, but no | Misks were taken with the engines, and she did not reach here until shortly be- ! t fore 4 p.m. This morning the engines wer-e thoroughly overhauled, and the j vessel is once more ready for sea.
