CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING COM- ' MENCES THIS WEEK. Preparations for the New Zealand Championship Rifle Meeting, which opens at Trontham on Friday next, are nor/ lrmig completed. The contest will be on a larger scale than ever, but the Jieiv arrangements will enable the- shoot'inp to be carried out well within the usual iiinc. According: to- Colonel R. J. Collins, the number of entrie3 received up to this morning is 550, ard there is every promise of a record entry. Com•petitors are now arriving daily and proceeding to the Wairarapa meeting as a preliminary to- ihe greater contest at Trentham. His Excellency the Governor ha? notified Colonel Collins, 1.5.0., executive officer .Dominion Rifle Association, that he propose^ giving a challonge cup to the a'^ociarion for a competition on the lines <>i the "Evelyn Wood competition," which is ti very popular service* contest between teams in the Old Country. The Karori Rifle Club will be- repre- ' eentod by the following members at the championship rifle meeting : — President H Marshall, Deputy-President G. Halliday, Pu'Semcn A. Guise, W. Harris, E. . ..Mrs. Moore will receive pupils for private tuition in dancing at her residence, 25, Bidwill-street. A juvenile class will - fee held every Saturday at the Now Century Hall. H. Ernest Lcighton will sell, on. account of various owners, cows, poultry, horses, etc., in the Hutt saleyards on Thursday next, at 2 p.m., not Wednesday, as previously advertised. Tho annual mooting of the Poneko Football Club will be held on 10th March. iJics Borlasse's dancing classes will be "esumed in March. The Welshmen of Wellington, undeterred by their failure to obtain Government recognition of St.David'b Day, will, following their usual edstom, celebrate the event by a "social" evening at Godber's, on Wednesday next. Tenders are called by tha secretary to the Post Office for the supply of copper and galvanised iron wire. At 2 o'clock to-morrow, Mr. W. L. Eobertson will sell by public auction in his rooms, Manners-street, household furJ^turo, the contents of a sis-roomed house. Messrs Gualter, Dykes, and Co. are advertising a number of residences and building sites for sale in city and suburbs. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Lancashiro Society will bo hold on Thursday evening. Messrs. A. L. Wilson and Co. insert particulars of a sale of furnishings, including an upright, grand piano, and effects they arc holding at their weekly sale of furniture to be held at their rooms, 26, Brandon-street, on Wednesday next, at j 1.30 p.m. The cataloguo also includes a roller top desk with eight drawers ; also a cash register.
