SYNOPSIS OF THE PAST 48 HOUfcS A cyclone of considerable intensity, whose | centre passed down the west coast of the North Island on Saturday, ard through Cook ■ Strait early on Sunday morning, caused very stormy weather generally. Heavy rain fell throughout the North Island and the north- 1 em portion of the South Island. Heavy northerly gales were experienced northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and bourh-easterly gales to the southward. Ram also fell in many other parts of the* South Island on Saturday and Sunday, with unsettled weather generally. The west coast districts of the North Island and the neighbourhood of Cook Strait recorded particularly heavy falls of rain, and freshes are reported in many of the rivers. TO-DAY'S WEATHER.
