CANTERBURY RUNS.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, 25th February. The Provincial Council Chamber was crowded to-day, when the leases of various Government and Canterbury College backcountry runs were put up to auction. For some of the runs bidding was spirited, the keenest competition being for the Double Hill No. 4 ran, of 22,500 acres, in Ashburton County, the upset rental for winch was £420, but which was actually disposed of for £800. The Canterbury "Collego runs all brought good rentals, the reason being that the conditions were easier than for Government properties and payment of full value for improvements at the end of the term was guaranteed. The largo Lake Coleridge run was submitted in two parts, both being secured by the former tenant.
