YACHTING.

« PORT NICHOLSON CLUB. In spite of the strong southerly and the heavy rain, the Port Nicholson Yacht Club held its races on Saturday afternoon. The Te Aro Sailing Club postponed its rave. Nearly all the competing craft wero reefed for the gale. Following are the results of the races :—: — First-class. — Siren (6min), 1; IMahina (scr), 2. The finishing times were : Syren, shr 52min 45sec, and Mahina 6hr 10£min. The new yacht Windward did not finish, as her owners did not wish to reef up the new .sails, and the wind W23 too strong for all canvas out. Thero were only three starters for the second-class yacht race— -Lizzie, Nanoya, and Viking. The Lizzie gave up owing to a break-down in her running gear, and the ilanoya and Viking retired. The Jlay and Te Rhina were the only starters in the third-class yacht race. The May won oft scratch, To Ehina (7min) not completing the course.
