GRAIN AND PRODUCE. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

CHPiISTCHURCH, 24th Feb. Wheat has been offered in fairly large quantities during the week, and growers being more willing to accept 39 at country stations, a good many sales have taken place. Some lines of smutted and inferior wheat ha\-e changed hands at 2s 9d to 2s. lid, but for good milling wheat 3s is the regular price being paid. Some space is being taken for shipments to London, but most of tho business that is being done is for local milling and for the North Island, or to go into store. Though oats are scarce, there i% practically no enquiry except for local consumption, as prices are beyond the limits at which business can be done with the North Island. Chaff remains at 65s at country stations. The demand for barley is now dull, and lines that would have commanded 5s 6d a sl\ort time ago are difficult to dispose of at anything like this figure. Partridge peas are easier, and most buyers are now not offering more than 3s Bd, and this price, it is stated, can only be paid to fill contracts, as it is not warranted by tho state of tho London market. The potato market is easier, £3 being offered for immediate delivery, and £2 10s to £2 15s for delivery during March. For cocksfoot up to 7£d has been paid, the crop having proved even shorter than was estimated.
