A MEMORIAL.
THE LATE SIR JAMES FERGTTSSON. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 18th October. A bronze statue of the late Sir James Fergusson, by Air. W. Goscombe Job!*, R.A., has been unveiled at Ayr, nTtbe presence of 2000 spectators. [Sir James Fergusson was Governor of New Zealand from 1875 to 1875, prior to which lie wafe Governor of South Australia. Born in 1832, he lost his life during the terrible earthquake in Jamaica in 1907. For some time he sot in the House of Commons as Conservative member for Ncrth-East Manchester, and at various times held the positions of Under-Seeretaiy for the India, Home, and Foreign Offices, and Postmaster Goneral. Mr. John, the well-known. sculptor, was born at Cardiff in 1860. His principal works are "Morpheus and St. John the Baptist," m Cardiff Ar* Gallery,- "Study of a Head." in Liverpool Art Gallery ; "Boy at Play." in Tale Gallery; "The EX," in Glasgow' Art Gallery.
